3 Ways to Ensure Your Pallet Wraps Properly to Avoid Damage.

Writer's picture: Thuan HuynhThuan Huynh

While it’s almost impossible to eliminate product damage, there are plenty of opportunities for companies to improve their pallet packing methods to reduce product damage significantly.

Sometimes, the automatic assumption is that more packing materials are better. However, that’s not always the case, and more packing materials often mean more waste in a world where sustainability is critical.

Here are some tips to reduce product damage while transit and materials are used, eventually benefiting your organization and the environment in the long run.

1. Choose the Right Pallet Size

Before wrapping any pallet, you must choose a pallet of the correct size. Using suitable pallets for your products and shipping and warehousing methods can help reduce freight damage. So when selecting you need to make sure:

  • Avoid any pallets with nail heads poking out or broken boards.

  • The pallet size must be large enough to prevent your shipment from hanging over the edges.

  • The pallet is strong enough to support the entire load.

2. Stacking Your Pallet for Shipment

Once you have the correct pallet, it's time to stack it. Follow these step to optimize your packing performance.

  • Always stack heavier items first and lighter, smaller items on top.

  • Securely seal all cartons and ensure your cartons are capable of withstanding stacking.

  • For the greatest stacking strength, organize boxes in neat columns from corner to corner. The goal is to make them as even as possible.

  • Use pallet liner paper or slip sheet underneath the load. This way will help protect the bottom layer and distribute the weight evenly.

3. Securing Your Load with Plastic Stretch Wrap

Stretch wrapping help reduce shipment damage by keeping boxes in place on the pallet and keeping movement to a minimum. Using the proper gauges and wrapping methods can help keep packages safe without wasting plastic. The plastic stretch wrap should be effectively applied around your pallet from the bottom up.

Automatic wrapping machines can go a long way towards reducing unnecessary waste that often occurs when hand-wrapping pallets.
